ABOUT US
We are Auctioneers, Valuers & Buyers of stamps, coins, medals, banknotes and other collectables. Our office is based in Stockport, Cheshire in the North West of England. Mr Brock started dealing in stamps and coins during the mid-1960’s. He opened his first shop in 1969, we are still trading from these same premises today.
Our company began to hold regular auction sales in the early 1970’s and over the years built up a reputation for being an honest, trust-worthy auction house who offer an excellent service and treat customers with respect. As a result of being an established business with a good reputation and considerable philatelic and numismatic experience we were accepted as members of the Philatelic Traders Society and the British Numismatic Trade Association several years ago.
We are interested in buying or accepting for auction all kinds of postage stamps, but in particular rare British stamps especially Victorian, Edward VII or George V. For good quality stamps we aim to offer you the best price for an immediate cash sale or you can enter them into one of our specialist auction sales feeling confident that your items will achieve an excellent price in the sale room.
Our public auction sales are well attended. Several hundred printed catalogues are sent to regular subscribers and we send many complimentary catalogues to new customers and promotional copies to known dealers, auction agents and collectors. The online catalogues with images are live at least three weeks prior to the sale date and are viewed by thousands of potential buyers from all over the world. Our auction sales are advertised widely across print and online media. As a result of our large client database and marketing strategy we receive thousands of absentee commission bids before the sale has even started! Bidding battles to buy lots break out between absentee bidders, buyers in the saleroom, on the internet and clients using our telephone bidding facility. Our job is to advertise your items and attract as many serious buyers as possible to the auction sale so we can get you the very best price for your lots.
If you choose to sell your items in our Auction Sale the only cost to you is our commission – there are no extra charges for storage, insurance or images. We do not have unsold fees so if your items don’t meet the reserve they are simply returned to you or we can enter them into the next auction sale if you wish with a revised estimate. Our commission charges are variable depending on the overall value of the items and the amount of work involved preparing them for our specialist auction sale.
Please contact us if you have single stamps or a large collection to sell. We will arrange for a free valuation, normally at our premises so we have access to our library of reference books and our database of auction results covering the UK and abroad going back several years. Home visits may be possible if your collection is of significant value, please contact us for details.
Once a valuation has been completed we will do our best to advise you whether to choose an outright cash offer meaning you can be paid immediately or if you stand to make more money by entering them into an auction sale even after paying the vendor commission. The decision of course will be yours.
Please note that in addition to buying and auctioneering we also offer an Insurance and Probate Valuation Service and can provide short term loans from £50 to £5000 against your collectables through our Pawnbroker Department. More information about all our services can be found on our own website www.afbrock.co.uk
We hope you have found the above information useful and if you feel that we can be of assistance please call us on 0161 456 5050 or email [email protected] and our friendly experienced staff will be happy to assist you.
